SpeakWithoutInteruption

We are www.SpeakWithoutInterruption.com - a new blog, and we are contacting you to invite writers to participate in our new site as contributors.  The original concept for our blog came from the frustration we felt – while watching, or listening, to TV and radio shows where guests/hosts could not finish their conversations because others kept interrupting them.  We now have expanded our concept to include anyone who would like to "Speak Without Interruption". We have a tab on our site www.speakwithoutinterruption.com  entitled "The Writer's Corner" – our invitation is listed there along with our personal invitation today.  Our theory is to give both amateur, and professional, writers a forum to share their views and thoughts.  If anyone is interested they can e-mail SpeakWithoutInterruption@gmail.com  and provide us with an idea of the type of topics they would like to write about and post.  Once participation is approved then we will send a User Name and Password so the party can post articles as they desire.

Its online efforts include The Absent Willow Review. The Absent Willow Review plans to publish fictional stories in the horror, fantasy, and science fiction genre while allowing its readers access to the magazine anywhere in the world. Additionally, the Absent Willow Review will publish paperback anthologies from their collected works. Were huge fans of the genres we publish, remarked Griffin. We started this company to find greats works of fiction and to locate the next generation of great writers. With its online magazine spotlighting new works and its print publications soon to be available through Amazon.com and other retailers, the Company is planning to renew interest in short works of fiction. For new and established authors of short fiction in the horror or fantasy vein, the market is light, DeCost added. We are hoping to change that. Absent Willow Publishing LLC is located in Rochester,

OpenFloodgate is a website dedicated to authors, essayists, commentators, screen writers, and playwrights who want the world to see their works. Started by Dr. Tina Seelig, an author and entrepreneurship educator at Stanford University who was frustrated with the long delays and business practices of the traditional publishing industry, OpenFloodgate puts authors in complete control of their own work. By directly connecting writers with their target audiences, OpenFloodgate brings immediate visibility to works that might not otherwise see the light of day.  No agents, no publishers, no middlemen of any sort pass judgment on the value or worthiness of a writer's work.  Writers control who sees their work, how it is presented, and how it is downloaded and sold. An author can create a group just for a writers' workshop, open their work to the world, or keep their work completely private.

Fishtrap Eastern Oregon Writer in Residence Program Eastern Oregon Writer in Residence Program puts professional writers into rural communities for a full nine-week school term. The program started with Fishtrap and Wallowa County, where it has run successfully for ten years. This year, the program is being expanded to Harney County (with the first residence in Crane), Fossil-Condon, and Chiloquin. Each community selects its own writer, but all communities will have access to a roster we are developing here at Fishtrap.  Writers work no more than two four-hour days in schools, teach an evening workshop for adults, and give at least one reading in the community. The rest of the time is theirs to write and live in the community. There is a $3,000 stipend for the nine weeks, and basic housing is provided.  Although the Wallowa County program will continue to operate winter term, other communities are looking at spring and fall terms (at this point, Fossil-Condon wants to split terms, so program will be March-April, with four weeks in each school; Harney County will be spring 2007, and Chiloquin fall, 2007). Manzanita Writers Series

The Manzanita Writers' Series aims to foster the local writing community,  promote literacy and writing programs, and bring well-known authors to the area.

A program of the Hoffman center, the Manzanita Writers' Series features a regional published author each month, followed by an Open Mic session in which nine writers may read five minutes of their original work.  See www.hoffmancentermanzanita.org/manzanitawriters.

Mountain Writers Series Mountain Writers Series began as a literary arts program in 1973 at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon. Over the years, the popular campus readings evolved as central to a network of literary arts sponsors in the Northwest. MWS, now an independent 501 (c)(3) non-profit, is a comprehensive organization that serves as the hub of literary partnerships for a network of over 90 sponsors.
The Nature of Words (NOW)

Now entering its sixth year of operation, the mission of The Nature of Words is to foster an appreciation of the literary arts and humanities in the High Desert region of the Northwest through community interaction with acclaimed authors, and through creative writing programs for high school and college-age students in the region. For more information, visit www.thenatureofwords.org, call 541.330.4381 or 541.480.3933 or email info@thenatureofwords.org.

The Nature of Words (NOW), Central Oregon's premier literary organization, will launch The Storefront Project, a creative writing workshop and tutoring site for middle- and high-schoolers Students can enroll in a four-workshop series on a drop-in basis at no charge. Taking a page from David Eggers' 826 Valencia concept in San Francisco, which is now in urban centers nationwide, NOW's Storefront Project will offer its workshops and one-on-one tutoring on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., with special programs offered on Saturday. In addition, field trips can be arranged whereby classrooms visit The Storefront during school hours for creative writing instruction. Workshops will be theme-based to help inspire young writers, and limited to 15 students. The theme for the winter term is "Outside Looking In". It is the goal of The Nature of Words to make creative writing cool, to make the Storefront Project a desired place to see and be seen. Clear rules will be established. Young students will come to work, not to hang out. Volunteers and/or paid author instructors and staff will be on hand to lead the workshops or conduct the one-on-one sessions using the NOW Creative-Writing-in-the-Schools curriculum as a guide. The Storefront Project is coordinated by Margaret Heater, vice-president of he Nature of Words Board of Directors.

Ellen Waterston, Executive Director of The Nature of Words, said, "The Storefront Project is an exciting extension of our Creative-Writing-in-the-Schools program, since it will bring creative writing opportunities to students who might not otherwise have access to the school-based workshops. The Board of Directors is dedicated to extending NOW's reach to a wider spectrum of young writers."

Students can get to the Storefront at Dudley's via the City of Bend's bus transit system, making it readily accessible for students not living close to downtown. The Nature of Words expects to attract 7th through 12th grade students enrolled in traditional and non-traditional educational settings, with a shared interest in improving their creative writing and language arts skills.

NOW's Creative-Writing-in-the-Schools Program provided classroom-based creative writing classes to 10 area schools and educational programs in 2009. Classes are currently scheduled to launch in several Central Oregon locations in 2010, including Crook County High School, Paulina, Sisters Middle School and Deer Ridge Correctional Institution in Madras. Other locations are in the works.

In conjunction with The Storefront Project, NOW has published The Teachers' Guide to NOW, a resource to help teachers use NOW's programs to inspire their students. Those programs include an annual literary festival held the first week of November, and the Rising Star Creative Writing Competition, now accepting submissions, which recognizes young writers ages 15-25 for excellence in fiction, literary non-fiction, poetry and nature essays. Deadline for submissions is May 10, 2010. Teachers who have not received a copy of The Teachers' Guide to NOW can request a copy by calling The Nature of Words at 541.330.4381 or emailing info@thenatureofwords.org.

Poet's Encyclopedia The intention of the Poets' Encyclopedia is to provide an indefinitely expanding encyclopedic resource on contemporary human poetics; particularly that of independent and small press poets born after 1935. The website is divided into sections. Each artist featured here has a page with a short factual biography, bibliography, and in some cases a brief sampling of their work. Likewise, periodicals, publishers, and historical events will also have pages featuring similar information. Also on each page will be the reviews, essays, and/ or impressions of the featured poet that have been submitted by our contributors. Inspired by the free online encyclopedia wikipedia.org, the information on the Poets' Encyclopedia will be generated in part by contributors all over the world. Participants will provide us with relevant biographic and bibliographic information, reviews, essays, poetry, and links. Anyone who wishes to contribute an article or correct one we've posted here is encouraged to do so. Submissions are reviewed before they are posted. We will not post any material that is irrelevant, racist, sexist, libelous, or poorly written.

We have launched a test site with half a dozen or so entries for you to peruse.  Please take a look at the site and let us know what you think and whether or not you'd be interested in contributing an article about yourself or any other poet(s), presses, publications or periodicals.  The success of this database will rely heavily on articles generated by our contributors.  If you have any questions or would like to submit an article or articles please send an email to jsgaulke@hotmail.com.  If you'd like to attach your article(s) as a word document feel free.  We will send you a link to the article we generate from the information you send before it is formally posted and listed in the index.  We look foreword to your input and contributions.
