The Fourth Wise One: Wichoni's Journey by Dorothy Blackcrow Mack Illustrated by Quitze Rose Pilling
This story came to Dorothy Blackcrow Mack while she lived on Pine Ridge Reservation, SD, married to a Lakota sundance leader raising a sacred herd of buffalo. They lived in a one-room log cabin without electricity or running water -- no books, many stories. Her extended family taught her generosity, cooperation and respect – for the land, the elders, for all my relations: birds, rocks, trees, surrounded by the Everywhere Spirit. It won First Prize for “My Favorite Holiday Story” and has been performed at libraries and church groups.
Quitze Rose Pilling lives in the temperate rainforest of the Pacific Northwest. She grew up these past eleven years inspired by a circle of artists, writers and musicians. Her first recognizable illustration was of a native rose. She loves the huckleberries, salmonberries, salal, blackberries, thimbleberries, tules, and the worlds of stellar jays, chipmunks, red-tail hawks, white herons, brown pelicans, salmon, beaver and the storytellers who come to life on the page as she draws: thank you for honoring the gifts of this story!
Quitze Rose & Dorothy are quite busy giving readings at libraries and churches, schools and art fairs, as well as radio shows & interviews with local newspapers.
